So... the Instagram Algorithm

At least Instagram’s intentions are clear 😜 whether it’s what we want to hear or not! [if you read anything, at least read the end haha]

We now know how the algorithm “works” and we also know VIDEO is one of the most popular forms of consumption online. Seriously, a recent study shows 72% (!!!) of consumers will watch video content over static (graphics, photo, etc.). 72…freakin’ percent.

It’s no surprise video is being prioritized, and it’s no surprise video-only apps are thriving. You can even check out my reel on this topic here!

But with all change, it always comes with resistance. So here’s my two cents:

🎥 If you’re a CONSUMER that disagrees: interact more with non-video posts (@creators shared tips on how to mark what you want/don’t want to see on this app) so that you are served the experience you want here.

🎥 If you’re a CREATOR that disagrees: I’m going to be honest and tell you that marketing your business strategically means evolving with consumer behavior, so embrace video in a way that works with your style, workload, and goals…but also reminding you that you don’t “have” to do anything that isn’t in alignment with how you like showing up and doing business. So always remember the power is in your hands, not in the algorithm.

And when it comes to video, remember that there are thousands of ways of expressing the same message. Like how I just told you a story about the algorithm by making a total fool of myself and running out of black liquid eyeliner 🤣
