More Followers Does Not Mean More Income

I know people with hundreds of thousands of followers (even a million) who haven’t broken past making their first $1,000. This is the reaction when influencers realize that more followers do not equal more income.

There’s a reason the follower count is a ~vanity~ metric: it’s nice to have, but it’s not what makes you.

When I hear people say “I want more followers” in connection with “making more money,” I challenge them to tell me why and think differently:

  • To make more money per brand deal? You can do that by negotiating and adding on to the deals you already have (scroll for video on this), or focusing on strengthening other stats like engagement and reach

  • To get discovered by brands? Focus on building genuine relationships with key people in the industry directly, don’t wait for the algorithm to bring you to them, then let them see where you win and the value you can provide at whatever your follower count

  • Want more clients from your own community? Focus on building know, like and trust within the follower count you already have, and valuable content that converts

Focusing on the community you already have not only drives RESULTS in the short-term, it sets you up so that when you naturally DO get more followers you are attracting the RIGHT people who are eager to be a part of your community. And, you’re creating a more sustainable business model.

WAS THIS HELPFUL?
