Influencers and the Pandemic

This time last year, I gave a presentation on how I predicted C0V!D-19 would affect the Influencer industry — and then made this short TikTok about it. Everyone was surprised to hear I thought it’d be one of the biggest years yet! And the numbers and trends show I was on the right track.

As more marketing turned digital and eyeballs went to social media, influencers were some of the more popular forms of marketing for brands. There was certainly a little bit of a “quiet” period in the beginning as brands readjusted budgets and planned for the worst, but then the surge of campaigns finally came.

With a caveat — the creators and entrepreneurs in this space that thrived did the things I mentioned in this video. And I’d say, the same carry on in the years to come.

Influencers who are at the top of their ~business~ game:

👉🏼 Spend time building more engaged communities
👉🏼 Also offer specialized services like professional content creation, public speaking, consulting, and more
👉🏼 Sell their own digital/physical products or services and don’t only rely on a ~hashtag ad~
👉🏼 Practice authenticity & address the reality of the state of the world (oof, and this one was even more prominent months later amid summer of 2020)

And if you’re not hitting these points, don’t worry. You’re not behind. Find the opportunity, fill the gaps, and keep the momentum going.

It’s never too late to start or course correct.

WHAT DID YOUR 2020 LOOK LIKE IN THE BUSINESS OF INFLUENCE?
