Creating A Diverse Social Media Experience

LET’S TALK ABOUT CREATING A TRULY DIVERSE SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERIENCE 🤍

This year I virtually met @imtiffanyyu, someone I discovered via Clubhouse for her conversations around the disability community. Through her work in the digital space and within @diversability — a mission to change the way the world perceives disabilities — I have learned a tremendous amount about how I can be a better ally and ensure when I say “diversity” I’m also including those with different lived experiences and abilities to my own.

In this month’s podcast episode (LINKED IN BIO), Tiffany talks to us about how she uses social media to be the representation she couldn’t find, and how we can be more mindful to honor these stories and create more accessible influence.

Which brings me to a reminder: when’s the last time you checked your explore page? What does it look like? How can you expand your world view? Are you seeing people who are also abled differently than you?

I know I needed work to do, so I made it a point to follow, support, and meaningfully engage with creators who identify as part of the disability community (visible and not).

Took some time for the algorithm to take a hint, but I could not be more overjoyed at the stories and creators I’m discovering (swipe for examples on the right). **

It’s beautiful how much control we have of what environment we want to create for ourselves on social media.
