The Entrepreneurial Journey
9 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS OF INFLUENCE…I’m tired.
On April 20, 2012 (my Facebook post came late) I started my first ~real~ job at a PR agency.
While spending time on the “brand side” 9 to 5, I spent my moonlight hours learning photography & social media. Which eventually turned into a huge resume builder that set me apart in many situations.
Early on in my career I was the go-to “office millennial” who was pulled into client projects that wanted to level up with content or digital strategy — at a time when many weren’t convinced about exploring this new frontier.
Oh, influencers is the new terminology we’re using? I not only managed more than $1 million of influencer budget for global brands, I built the framework for HOW we work with influencers within my previous roles at some of the largest advertising agencies in the globe.
I didn’t know it at the time, but THAT was ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
It was about finding ways to innovate within my own context and bringing value to my clients in ways they hadn’t been used to before.
Many times it was risky — I can’t tell you how many “higher ups” questioned me talking about why we needed to invest in influencer marketing…and thanked me later — but it helped me develop into the business owner I am today.
Let this be a reminder that you don’t have to “leave the 9 to 5” to be ENTREPRENEURIAL. It can start from wherever you are in your journey.
PS: My first job ever was at @coldstone when I was 16 and I 10/10 recommend hehe
