Brand Exploiting Identity

I sent a brand a link to learn more about the Latinx pay gap today ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ and Iโ€™m disappointed (but not surprised) weโ€™re still even having this conversation.

I know so many who identify as BIPOC or LGBTQ+ likely experience this DAILY โ€” and it feels like a bigger slap in the face when you have a time that โ€œhonorsโ€ your identity (month, week, holiday) and brands try to use our identify for marketing and profit.

So after going for a walk ๐Ÿ˜… hereโ€™s what I do about it:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Respond. Always respond. So that they know their practices are unfair. If you donโ€™t want to take the time to provide educational labor, send them my way. Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m here for!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Find ways to talk about money with your peers so that more can see their true earning potential. For me, itโ€™s providing this ~edu-tainment~ content on the topic Iโ€™ve worked through for almost a decade. And bringing the people I work with evidence-based models about pay in the business of influence.

We work toward a world where this stops happening when we continue to have dialogue about it.

Should I post my full response for this brand exchange? ๐Ÿ‘€ Give me a โ€œDO IT!โ€ below and I just mightโ€ฆ
